How to Increase Engagement With Your Online Content

With the rise of online content marketing, to build your business, the question often comes up “how do I increase engagement with my online content?”

When you are face to face with someone you can see their reaction, but when your prospects are behind a screen it’s much more difficult to gauge a reaction. It can be uncomfortable at best, and soul-destroying at worst to put all this energy into content marketing and receive crickets! That’s why engagement is so important. Otherwise, you have no idea if your content marketing is working or not, and more importantly, you don’t get any feedback to know if you are on the right track.

I’ve recorded a quick video below to help you increase engagement with your online content – be that with your videos, Facebook Lives, Webinars etc.

To summarise, the 3 quick tips to increase engagement with your online content are:

1. Go in with an intention to add value

When producing content it can be really easy to get sidetracked by imparting as much of your knowledge as you can. That might make you feel good, but is that best for the consumer? Don’t go in with the idea that you have all this information you have to share, instead consider your content from your audience’s point of view. What value are they going to get out of it? How is it going to add to their day?

2. Focus on “what’s in it for them?”

People will be much more likely to engage with your content if you focus on “what’s in it for them?” Be sure to always share something useful for the person watching. Focus your content on things such as: what problem are you going to solve for them? What problem can you help them with? What is going to get the person to the next stage? What will make their life easier?

3. Add a bit of humour

Finally, add a bit of humour. I see so many online videos and Facebook lives where they are dry and boring and blah! If you are publishing content on the internet, especially on platforms such as Facebook and Youtube, there needs to be a bit of entertainment factor in there, and humour is a quick and simple way to do this.  There are numerous benefits to using humour, but the one that will be particularly helpful in the case of online content is that humour can release endorphins to your brain. They’re the feel-good chemicals that make you feel fantastic. If you repeatedly add humour to your online content you’ll make people feel good, and it’s possible that your content could get a bit addictive for your viewers. That means they’ll be much more likely to tune in and consume your content rather than just scrolling by.
